How did fur trappers, better known as mountain men, contribute to the expansion of the West?
As mountain men were also known as fur trappers, they welcomed trade. By doing this, America moved on west with spreading word that trading posts were being made at the mouths of rivers. Fur trapping was important towards the expansion of America. As time continued, there were forts and trading posts around many rivers. Pioneers also traveled the Oregon Trail, which introduced America into the Manifest Destiny belief.

The man who started trapping went by the name of John Colter. When he was dispatched from the Lewis and Clark Expedition, he survived the winter by trapping around the area of Yellowstone River.

The man to the left, Manuel Lisa, and other men were the first to make a trading post. This trading post went by the name of Fort Raymond. This was one of the big steps made into American expansion.
