The first event that started the end of cowboys, is that farmers satrted to breed cattle that were unable to live on the open range. There was also a drop in demand for beef for the consumers, which in turn made cattle farming less profitable. Also, in 1886 there was a very cold winter which killed many cowboys and cattle with the freezing temperatures.
Question: Is there any way that some of these things could have been prevented?
