Picture

The original people of California were the Native Americans. Since they were forced to continuously move west they settled here. But, when the Gold Rush of 1849 came, the Native Americans were slaughtered. Their population was cut down, with about only 10%-20% still alive. The Native Americans suffered greatly from disease, starvation, and innocent slaughter.

Thinking Like a Historian

Through Their Eyes
How did their worldview affect their choices and actions?

I thought the Native Americans could only just sit and watch themselves and their friends die. They couldn't do anything about the Americans. If so, the Americans only would've wiped out all the Native Americans. The Native Americans were helpless. They could only be passive, and do nothing.

What values, skills, and forms of knowledge did people need to succeed?

Although the Native Americans really didn't succeed, the didn't react to the situation aggressively. No force was used in their downput. For the Americans, they used force to overcome the Indians. Their intelligence enabled them to keep on going, with new technology, and new ideas, the Americans succeeded in their actions.
